Fasting Guide
Drawing Near to God
Fasting is more than skipping meals—it’s a spiritual reset that renews us from the inside out.
It helps us celebrate God’s goodness and mercy while preparing our hearts for every blessing He desires to give.
“When you fast, do not look somber…your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
—Matthew 6:16-18
Preparing for a Fast
Before you begin, seek God in prayer and follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
The length and style of your fast are less important than keeping your heart focused on Him.
Types of Fasts
Selective Fast
Remove specific foods or food groups.
Example: the Daniel Fast—fruits, vegetables, whole grains; water and juice for fluids.
Partial Fast
Abstain from food during set times, such as 6 a.m.–3 p.m. or from sunup to sundown.
Complete Fast
Consume only liquids—typically water, with light juices if needed.
Soul Fast
Step away from distractions such as social media, television, or other habits that pull you from God.
This is ideal for those with health concerns or anyone sensing a need to refocus.
